Schawarma Records presents "Songs of the Rabbi"
In Messianic Jewish congregations all over the world on every Shabbat small music teams gather before services to run over a few simple songs and perform for their respective congregations to sing. This gathering of voices always produces a beautiful sound as we lift praises to Yeshua.
In a seminar classroom of a Meuchad Worship Conference October 2018, many of us were trying to define exactly what "Messianic Worship" music and thought it best to look to those pioneer songwriters of the 1970s/80s revival era speak again; because by now those some honorable men have established hundreds of local congregations worldwide. At a single IAMC Rabbi's conference in Orlando we found 15 Rabbis who had three songs each in a few minutes.
So we began inviting every worship musician who would be familiar with these Rabbis or their songs to make their way to Sound Mind Studios in Daytona Beach, FL in late January 2019.
Over that week, twenty-seven singers/musicians showed up randomly and we would randomly form three different "music teams" from the available musicians every day. Each of those three teams would choose one song out of three submitted by each Rabbi and have 30 minutes to rehearse it before recording.
They were directed to do nothing more than what happens on a Shabbat morning. No overdubs, no click-tracks, no synthetic sounds. For the record, everyone paid their own way to Florida to do this, and Matt McKeown donated two weeks of his talent and time to record, mix and master what they did at Sound Mind Studios.
It is nothing short of a miracle that these songs came out so beautifully through that kind of chaos! All glory to Yeshua!
May they all be blessed for this sacrifice. May a double portion fall to Producer Matt McKeown for use of his studio, time, and expertise. May you be blessed to know that EVERY song on this project was written by a Messianic Rabbi and performed by a local worship artist. May Yeshua be blessed by the praises of our lips and the meditations of our heart.
